Set Up and Take Down
1. The stage needs to be left in the same way (or better) than you found it (i.e. if you move drums, keyboards, please put them back at the end of the night, leave mic stands sensibly arranged, etc.)
2. Table and chairs CAN be moved, re-arranged for dancing or any number of things but MUST be put back at the end of the night.
3. Artwork CANNOT be moved without previous authorization.
4. No
holes may be put in walls to display art
Other Stuff in and Around the Space
1. We rent the upstairs of The Talking Stick for various events and happenings. The upstairs and upstairs bathrooms are not to be used in conjunction with downstairs events UNLESS previously arranged.
2. Absolutely no outside food or drink is allowed by artists, promoters, or even archangels. Support the venue!
3. Please do NOT bring in (or allow artists to bring in) wine or other alcohol before, during or after shows.
3. The Talking Stick has a one drink minimum for evening events (actually, for daytimes too).
4. The Talking Stick staff always reserves the right to modify sound. If we feel the sound is too loud or the board is being misused we will step in and make modifications.
Cover charges.
1. Any cover charge must be agreed on BEFORE the day of the event with the house.
2. House must receive AT LEAST 25% of cover charge (i.e. if you want to charge $10 for cover, the house gets at least $2.50) OR…
3. ALTERNATIVELY, a voucher of at least 50% (and not less than $3.00) of the cover charge can be used as part of the cover instead (i.e. if you want to charge $10, you would charge $15, the house gets $5, and the guest gets a $5 voucher for food and drinks).
4. Promoters AND the house can put people on the guest list (i.e. obviously you get to choose who gets in without paying the cover, but if there are regulars who we’d rather not clear out for a show we reserve the right to keep them in)
5. Patrons who come to The Talking Stick for “to go” service (i.e NOT for the show) MUST be allowed to come in and order
6. The back door can be locked for certain events ONLY if a) it is cleared with staff, b) a sign is put on the door indicating that the coffeehouse is OPEN and people can come around to the front, c) the deadbolt is NOT to be used so people can still exit through the backdoor (fire regulations, ask staff how to lock door to outside with our safety lock)
7. If The Talking Stick finds that a cover charge is deterring customers and business, we reserve the right to disallow a cover charge for any given event.
8. For events that don’t charge cover, passing the hat, having a tip jar for musicians is fine.
9. Special events for causes and passing the hat for causes (as long as The Talking Stick knows about it in advance) is awesome and encouraged.
Please feedback! Suggestions, constructive criticism, ideas for improvement, issues that need to be addressed… please bring them on! Thanks again for all the art, goodness, music, performances, and more at The Talking Stick.
